THE COST OF DARKNESS LOGO
Interning under the Culture C.O.-O.P. and United in Unity, I was asked to design a logo for their new documentary, The Cost of Darkness. It talks about the racial disparities in America, while also offering ideas on changing the disputation.
The director of the Culture C.O.-O.P. and United in Unity, Sandy Holman, told me that she wanted a logo that would "reflect how we see darkness in a bad way but still illustrates blackness in a beautiful way."
I began drafting logos with black roses and eyes to illustrate that there is beauty in darkness. I continued iterating and eventually found a logo that stood out to me. The hand with the rose in the palm gave the feeling of "stopping the craziness." Sandy also wanted to include several words with the logo and I created more drafts.
I chose the final design because it is minimalistic and easy to comprehend. I knew that I wanted to keep the logo black because it would show simplicity. The logo also draws viewers in with its unique details in the center.
